OUR VOCATION
Of all the wonderments I entertain,
The grandest is how we could ever be,
And whose commandment would our race ordain,
And what’s the nature of this deity.
Then, beyond that, how did this Cosmos come
Into existence, if it had a start—
These are the mysteries I yearn to plumb,
But how could any human be so smart?
Perhaps it’s best to leave the Ultimate
Alone and pay attention to what needs be done
To fare well here, and wisely use our wit
Learning how best to thrive and what to shun.
Instead of scanning stars and heavens above,
Our calling is to learn to live in love.
