BLOCK PARTY SONNET
Our neighbors down the side street, Randall Road,
Last night threw a block party in their drive,
And we each brought a cold dish, a la mode,
Into which, in our turn, we each would dive.
Our children and our pets were welcome, too,
Providing much diversion for the crowd
As they their rowdy frolics would pursue
Causing the conversation to grow loud.
Some new acquaintances were happily made
And all the latest gossip cycled round
As the whole while the dogs and children played;
The adults chattered and the youngsters clowned.
The upshot of this gentle revelry
Was happiness and camaraderie.
