HOMO SAPIENCE III
Both foresight and imagination make
Us who we are as humans, able to
Perceive what other creatures find opaque
By mental imagery that brings in view
What is remote from us in space and time,
So we might then anticipate and plan
For outcomes ordinary or sublime
More than all other earthly creatures can.
What then distinguishes us humans more
Is that which lets you read my words right now,
This language I’ve transcribed, the very core
Of human sapience, and that is how
We’ll save our species from a fatal end,
For on clear reasoning our lives depend.
