SILK PURSE
Some home-invading burglars have struck near,
And now the neighbors are all flush with fear,
Afraid that everything they hold most dear
Lies in grave peril and might disappear.
Their bubble of security has burst,
And what had seemed most sacred now seems curst,
And what had seemed most sacred now seems curst,
While all in general panic are immersed
Supposing in mere innocents the worst.
A world that seemed both amiable and safe
Lies shattered now among their shards of faith.
