HOMO SAPIENCE

                  Informed by energy from outer space,
                  Life has emerged on this once sterile Earth
                  As evidence of a pervasive Grace
                  Sustaining it from fruitless dearth.
                  The Source of this beneficence we call
                  Our Heavenly Father or, more simply, God,
                  Whose Son once saved us from our fatal Fall,
                  We who began as but an earthly clod.
                  What may become of us remains to see,
                  For we have yet to fully realize
                  The scope of our potentiality
                   When Homo sapiens at last grows wise,
                        Which is the challenge that our race now faces
                         By learning to become both kind and gracious.
