WHY WE LOVE DOGS
We love dogs most because we are alike,
For “Dogs are people, too,“ we often say.
They study us and sometimes seem to psych
Us out: it’s they who teach us to obey.
They’re grateful for our services to them,
Becoming loyal and affectionate,
Tolerant, not hasty to condemn,
And what we’ve done for them they don’t forget.
They are appealing to both touch and sight;
They’re often teachable and love to learn;
Their playful antics give us sweet delight,
And we still love them even when we’re stern.
How do they make us love them as we do?
The simple reason is—they want us to.
