SPACE SEED

                    However did life first begin on Earth,
                    When molten rock transformed itself to turf
                    And organisms more complex emerged
                    By some implicit motivation urged?
                    My guess is that a seed from outer space,
                    Its origin itself mysterious,
                    Descended here, evolving into us.

                   That begs the question, though, of how life first
                    Emerged at all and where that may have been
                    And how, once it was born, it had been nursed,
                    Though pondering this leads only to chagrin.
                    I think indeed we never shall reveal
                    What occult powers seem destined to conceal.
