VOCATION

It is our plight to puzzle all our lives
What makes one falter while another thrives,
Just what it means to “live most meaningfully”
And “realize potentiality.”

The fortunate are blessed with liberty
To choose their ways, but learn that being free
Entails responsibility to find
Some end for which they seem to be designed.

“Why am I here? What am I called to do?”
The curse of consciousness makes them pursue
Illusions promising them peace at last
When all their joys and agonies have passed.

The happiest are those whose dreams prove true
And what they’ve done is what they ought to do.
