CANIS AMORETTIS

Our dogs are little loves, our amoretti,
On whom we shower affections, grand and petty.
They’ve stolen our wan hearts with winsomeness
Yet given them back enlarged with each caress,
Which fills us with such tenderness and care
That everywhere we go love’s ours to share,
And thus do dogs enhance humanity
By mitigating our insanity.
